Where light tells the story

Flowers (2024)
This project is part of the Lighting Challenge by The Academy of Animated Art, where the character model,
animation, and base voice were provided.
My main responsibilities included:
Grooming / Texturing / Look development / Lighting / Rendering / Compositing
/ Video and Sound Editing.
My main goal was to visualize the narrative and emotional tone of the character animation through lighting.
The primary light source in the scene is a campfire, and I wanted it to convey the warmth and solitude of a quiet night in the forest—like a heartfelt late-night talk. I focused on balancing the cool moonlight with the warm, orange glow of the fire to create an emotionally compelling atmosphere.
One of the most challenging parts was lighting the fur with XGen, but it ended up being a valuable learning experience in how to approach lighting for different characters and materials.
In terms of compositing, I incorporated fire and smoke VFX elements, adjusting color, brightness, contrast, and even speed to match the mood of the animation. I also added subtle particle FX to bring out a dreamy, fairy-tale forest feel.
